The second night of the two-night Bellator event in Hawaii will take place on Saturday Night, December 15, 2018.

The event will take place at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and can be seen only on the DAZN Network App.

The Main Event of Bellator 213 is for the Bellator Women’s Flyweight Championship as Ilima-Lei MacFarlane defends her title against Valerie Letourneau.  This will be her second title defense since winning the vacant crown at Bellator 186.

In the Co-Main Event, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida will make his Bellator debut, when he takes on Rafael Carvalho.  There are several really good fights on this card and one of the more exciting Bellator cards of 2018.

Bellator 213 Handicapping

Our top play from Bellator 213 is from the fight between Lyoto Machida and Rafael Carvalho.  This fight is being held in the Bellator Middleweight Division and will feature 3-five minute rounds.

Rafael Carvalho enters this fight with a 15-2 record. Carvalho is fresh off a 1st round KO loss at the hands of Gegard Mousasi, where he lost his Bellator Middleweight Title.  Carvalho had won 15 fights straight heading into that fight with Mousasi, having book-end losses, in his first even pro debut and in his last fight, with 15 wins between. There really is a major question on the level of competition that Carvalho has faced throughout his career.  Now, he faces one of the most recognizable faces in MMA, Lyoto Machida.

Machida will be making his Bellator debut after spending 11-years in the UFC.  Unlike Carvalho, Machida has fought the best of the best over the years including Jon Jones, Chris Weidman, Yoel Romero, Vitor Belfort, Luke Rockhold, Gegard Mousasi, Phil Davis, Ryan Bader, Rashad Evans, Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture and Quinton Jackson.  Machida left the UFC on a good note, winning his last two fights against Eryk Anders and Vitor Belfort, and choosing to leave the promotion for more money.

Machida is a smart fighter and his cage IQ is twice that of Carvalho.  Machida wasn’t brought in and signed by Bellator to take a loss. He was brought here to face somewhat softer opposition and prolong his career. Machida is hard to hit and fighters rarely land big shots on him.  That is Carvalho’s entire game. He tries to knock his opponent out with big shots. I don’t see that happening in this fight. Machida wins this fight!

Free Pick: Lyoto Machida +108 for 3.5 units

Additional Bellator 213 Plays

Liam McGeary +206 over Muhammed Lawal for 2 units- McGeary enters this fight after dropping his last two fights, and 3 of the last 4 overall. He is in a bad spot as he must turn his career around now, since he is 36-years old and not getting any younger.  McGeary has a really good ground game and will be facing Muhammed Lawal, who is even older than McGeary at 37-years old. Lawal does not do good against taller fighters. McGeary will fight his style of fight and hand Lawal his second straight loss.

Neiman Gracie +342 over Ed Ruth for 2 units – OK, I don’t understand this line at all. Both fighters have the ability to win this fight, if they get their game plan in position.  The way I see it, Gracie at +342 is probably the best value on the card. Gracie just celebrated his 30th birthday on Wednesday but the real celebration takes place on Saturday Night, when he beats wrestler Ed Ruth!

Misc. Notes on Bellator 213

Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Valerie Letourneau – This entire event was put on and headlined with Ilima-Lei Macfarlane as the face of the event.  She is fighting in her hometown and will bring out fans in larges hordes and she will single-handedly sell out this place. The Hawaiian culture will all come out to support her and she is fighting Letourneau, who is undefeated in Bellator at 125 LBS.  I think this fight will be close but I think Macfarlane gets the submission win early in the first round. My concern is the odds……why isn’t Macfarlane a much larger favorite? I’m avoiding the fight but if a gun was to my head, I’d be betting Macfarlane.
