Combate 45: Guadalajara Feature Betting Fight Breakdown
Our feature fight from a betting standpoint for Combate 45: Guadalajara is in the Featherweight Division between former UFC veteran Horacio Gutierrez and Chase Gibson. This fight will take place over 3 rounds of 5 minutes in action.
Gutierrez enters this fight 5-3 overall and is riding a 2-fight win streak. The 29-year old from Guadalajara will be the hometown favorite on this card and will look to use this fight to get him back into the UFC.
Gutierrez was a member of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America Season 2 and made it to the finals, where he lost to Enrique Barzola. Gutierrez followed that up by getting offered a second fight in the UFC, where he was knocked out in the 1st round against Teruto Ishihara. With that loss, Gutierrez was given his walking papers and terminated from the UFC.
Since leaving the premier organization, Gutierrez has gone 2-0 with wins over Antonio Suarez and former UFC veteran and Diaz Brothers training partner Chris Avila. The one thing that is concerning with Gutierrez is the fact that he has not been in the cage since May 2018. Will the cage rust be a factor here?
Standing across the cage from Gutierrez will be Chase Gibson. Gibson is 7-3 overall and riding a 1-fight win streak. The 29-year old has been fighting in the lightweight division but has taken the time off to help cut weight and now will be stepping in at featherweight.
Gibson has fought a very low level of competition however he still possesses a decent record with all things considered. His last fight, was against Chris Chavez, who is 0-19.
Granted, that record is terrible but that was just what he needed after taking a loss to Rafa Garcia, who is now 11-0 and on the verge of a UFC contract.
In this fight, I’m expecting Chase Gibson to win over Horacio Gutierrez. I’m just not impressed by Horacio Gutierrez. I’ve watched plenty of tape on this guy and I think he is one dimensional.
He will have the crowd in his corner and if the fight goes the distance, you have to be concerned with a bias Mexico judging, however I don’t think the fight will go the distance and will look for Gibson to get the finish. I think Gibson has more options in his toolbox and at -140, I think we get him at a discounted rate. Jump on Gibson for a small play tonight.
