UFC 234: Whittaker vs. Gastelum Handicapping Tips and Betting Picks

This week we are headed to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for UFC 234. The card is being held at Rod Laver Arena and will get started at about 5:00 PM on Saturday Evening.
Last week, we lost our top play with Lyman Good but still ended up going 4-1 on the card to bring our record on the year up to 10-2. This week, we have a few more plays that we are strong on but there really isn’t a ton of value plays available this week that we like but we have found a few that we think are the best value.

UFC 234 Featured Betting Fight
As we said a bit earlier, this fight card really does not hold many fights that have decent value. The best fight that we’ve found is in the Light Heavyweight Division between Jim Crute and Sam Alvey. This fight is slated to take place as the Main Card opener for UFC 234.
Sam Alvey is a 44-fight veteran of the sport and holds a record of 33-11. Alvey is 32-years old and will be traveling to Australia from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Alvey has had a rough go at it recently, splitting his last 6 fights 3-3. He is coming in off a 2nd round KO at the hands of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira back on September 22, 2018. Alvey has really had some knock down-drag out fights recently, including a 3-round split decision win over Gian Villante.
Alvey will be facing a young fighter in Jim Crute. Crute is undefeated at 9-0 and will be making his second appearance inside the octagon. In his UFC debut, Crute submitted Paul Craig with a kimura in the 3rd round. Crute was found on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, where he KO’d Chris Birchler in the 1st round. Crute is very well rounded and has skills to not only submit you but has heavy hands that can knockout his opponents.
This fight is very interesting to me. For starters, the UFC will be looking to build Crute and want to put him against someone that really doesn’t have a lot of takedown defense. Hence the reason he is fighting Sam Alvey. Crute is fighting Alvey in front of his hometown Australian crowd and will be opening up the pay-per-view, where the UFC will want to get the crowd immediate excited. No better way to do that than to allow one of their own to feast on a pure striker. Crute should have no problem with taking Alvey down and submitting him in this fight.

Other Betting Picks For UFC 234
Rani Yahya -110 over Ricky Simon – The second fight that we like this week is a complete mismatch of styles! Yahya is a complete grappler with the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Bantamweight Division and Ricky Simon is a striker that has shown he has the 1-punch KO power that we normally don’t see in the lower weights. The difference is Yahya has already shown that he has great movement and can avoid getting into fist fights with his opponents. I look for Yahya to take this fight to the ground early in the fight and submit the younger Ricky Simon!
