UFC 251 Betting Preview and Free Play: Davey Grant vs. Martin Day

by Tyler Vaysman | July 7, 2020 |

Taking a look into the early prelims for the UFC 251 on fight island, you can witness another good betting experience. The two fighters at hand are bantamweights Martin Day and Davey Grant.

  • Date: Saturday, July 11, 5:00 PM
  • Venue: UFC Fight Island
  • Watch on: ESPN

The Fighters

Martin Day (8-3-0)

Day is attempting to make a mark in the bantamweight division, as this will be his second fight since joining the UFC. His first attempt came at a loss but his professional record shows that he has 3 wins by knockout, 3 by decision, and 2 by submission.

“The Spartan” has his stats based off his first fight with the UFC and some other fights so these numbers might be a little inflated in some areas. He has a striking accuracy at 54 percent and a grappling accuracy of 100 percent.

He lands 6.67 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 6.40. Again, this might be a little high but we can assume he does have a 1 to 1 here.

He has a takedown defense at 86 percent and a significant strike defense at 59 percent. He also averages 1 takedown and 2 submissions every 15 minutes.

Davey Grant (10-4-0)

Grant has had some bad luck and injuries along the way so far in his career. He looks to get back on track with winning to add to his 8 wins by submission, 1 by knockout, and 1 by decision.

“Dangerous” has a striking accuracy at 54 percent and a grappling accuracy of 30 percent. He lands 3.60 significant strikes a minute and absorbs 1.41. He has a very solid ratio here, and seems to defend well.

He has a significant strike defense at 68 percent and a takedown defense at 65 percent. He also averages 1.25 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Odds For This Event

The market looks to be consistent across the board. Intertops has their odds currently placing this one at:

Day:-190

Grant:+150

Potential Winning Pick

These two stack up great on paper. However, I think this one should be approached with some caution.

Day appears to be a little aggressive in his fighting style and this could lead to reckless attempts at his strikes. Grant seems to have a better all around game here but does not seem to have the knockout power needed to take down Day.
