UFC Fight Night 114
Where: Mexico City, Mexico
Date & Time: Saturday August 5, 2017
Quick Picks: Brandon Moreno – 165 for 3 Units, Alexa Grasso -150 for 3 Units
This week, the UFC is coming to us from Mexico City, Mexico at the Mexico City Arena on Saturday night. Before we get into this week, let’s take a look at how we did last week. If you played our plays for UFC 214, you were happy gamblers last week as we once again went 2-0.
We nailed the Tyron Woodley over Demian Maia and we not only nailed the fight, we called exactly what would happen. We said Maia’s only path to a victory would be on the ground but we said he would struggle taking Woodley down. Low and behold, Maia was 0 for 21 on takedown attempts and needless to say, we cashed Woodley as a 3.5 unit play.
We also crushed a 5 Unit play on Aljamain Sterling over Renan Barao at -130. All though we had him at -130, he could of been found at -110 at some online sportsbooks. That is a nice 8.5 unit week and we will look to continue the winning ways this Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 114.
Sergio Pettis vs. Brandon Moreno
The first fight we are looking at is the main event between Sergio Pettis and Brandon Moreno. Sergio Pettis is 15-2 and is on a 3 fight win streak. He is coming into this fight off a 3 round unanimous decision victory over John Moraga at UFC Fight Night 103 back on January 15, 2017. Pettis has won his last 6 wins all by decision, the last time he had a finish in a fight was way back in 2013!
Brandon Moreno is 14-3 and is on a 11 fight win streak. Moreno made his UFC debut and got his shot in the UFC after Sergio Pettis was injured and forced to pull out of his fight against Louis Smolka at UFC Fight Night 96 in Portland, Oregon. Moreno took that fight on short notice and was a major underdog at +385 in the fight. Moreno went into that fight with nothing to lose and ended up submitting Smolka in the very first round. Moreno followed that up with a split decision victory over Ryan Benoit on The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale. At 2-0, he went into his most recent fight against Dustin Ortiz with a lot of confidence and belief in himself. Moreno submitted Ortiz and is now 3-0.
Brandon Moreno will be a huge home crowd favorite fighting in front of his hometown. His submission game is very good and he will attack from all positions. This fight is a stylistic nightmare for Pettis due to his lack of submission defense. Moreno will take this fight to the ground and will submit Pettis. I like Moreno as a 3 Unit play!
Pick: Brandon Moreno – 165 for 3 Units
Randa Markos vs. Alexa Grasso
Randa Markos is 7-4 and fighting out of Tristar Gym. Markos is coming in off a split decision victory that I personally scored for her opponent, Carla Esparza. Prior to that, she lost to Cortney Casey by 1st round submission. Overall, Markos is 3-3 overall but very easily could've been 2-4 in those 6 fights.
Alexa Grasso is 23 years old and has a record of 9-1. Grasso is fighting out of Guadalajara, Mexico and will be a heavy crowd favorite fighting in front of her home crowd. Grasso was a heavy favorite last fight and lost to Felice Herrig by unanimous decision. Prior to that fight, Grasso made her UFC debut against Heather Clark and won by unanimous decision.
Grasso is going to want to bounce back and she has a cupcake of an opponent standing in front of her. Grasso is a very good striker and expect Markos will come in and stand up with her until she gets clipped. Grasso should have no problem controlling the fight and keeping the fight on the feet, where she will eventually KO Markos in the 2nd round.
Pick: Alexa Grasso -150 for 3 Units
