UFC Fight Night 142 Handicapping
The feature fight of UFC Fight Night 142 was truly a tough one to decide between this fight and one of the fights we will list later on but the fight we are talking about here is between Tony Martin and Jake Matthews in the UFC Welterweight Division.
Tony Martin is 14-4 overall and riding a 2-fight win streak. He is fresh off a 3rd round KO over Ryan LaFlare at UFC 229 in October and a unanimous decision win over Keita Nakamura prior to that fight with LaFlare. Martin is a well-rounded fighter that is mutually dangerous on the ground and on the feet.
Jake Matthews is 14-3 overall and is riding a 3-fight win streak. Matthews is coming in off a 1st round KO of Shinsho Anzai at UFC Fight Night 132 back on June 23, 2018. Matthews 3-fight win streak consists of wins over Anzai, Jingliang Li, and Bojan Velickovic.
There is a big difference in this fight that stands out to me like a car with high beams on in the middle of the night on a back road! Jake Matthews is not cutting weight anymore. He used to fight at 155 and admitted that the weight cut played a major part in dehydrating him and he found it tough to recover from. Since moving up in weight to 170, he is 3-0! He looks phenomenal at 170lbs and I think he his striking will be a bit too much for Martin.
I’m playing Jake Matthews -112 for 3 units as I think he will outwork Martin in this fight and get the statement win to stretch his win streak to 4 fights.

Additional UFC Fight Night 142 Plays
Paul Craig +216 for 3 units – If you watched the media stair downs, you noticed a noticeable size advantage for Craig. It literally looked like two fighters from two different weight classes! Even without the size advantage, Craig has a very dangerous ground game and if this fight goes to the ground, he will submit Jim Crute. Crute is a talented kid but his level of competition is very questionable. I really like Craig here as a dog!
Mark Hunt +107 for 2 units – Hunt is battle tested and will have the entire Australian fan base behind him. Hunt will exchange blows to be able to land one big shot. He may be getting up in age, but he still has that pop-pop strength that will KO his opponent Justin Willis in this fight.
