The next UFC event has another handful of exciting fights, as well as awesome betting opportunities. One fight to keep a watch on is the heavyweight main event between Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik.

  • Date: Saturday, August 8
  • Venue: UFC APEX
  • Watch on: ESPN+

The Fighters

Derrick Lewis (23-7-0)

Lewis is currently ranked 4th in the heavyweight division. His fighting resume shows that he has 18 wins by knockout, 3 by decision, and 1 by submission.

“The Black Beast” has a striking accuracy at 49 percent and a grappling accuracy at 24 percent. He lands 2.53 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 2.14. This is a solid and conservative ratio here, with nothing too wild.

Lewis has a takedown defense at 53 percent and a significant strike defense at 45 percent. He also averages 0.48 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time.

Aleksei Oleinik (59-13-1)

Oleinik is currently ranked 10th in the heavyweight division. His fighting resume shows that he has 8 wins by knockout, 46 by submission, and 5 by decision.

“Boa Constrictor” has a striking accuracy at 51 percent and a grappling accuracy at 46 percent. He lands 3.72 significant strikes a minute and absorbs 3.30. This is another solid ratio, but the numbers are climbing and would need to defend more.

Oleinik has a takedown defense at 35 percent and a significant strike defense at 47 percent. He also averages 2.41 takedowns and 2.21 submissions every 15 minutes.

Odds For This Event

The market is in somewhat heavy favor of Lewis for this one. BetDSI has odds currently placed at:

Lewis: -263

Oleinik: +211

Potential Winning Pick

Both of these fighters have had tremendous success in their careers. One has excellent knockout power while the other can tie you up and submit out quickly. But are these odds justified here?

Oleinik is going to be aggressive with his takedowns and try to work Lewis on the ground. Both of them have a very similar reach, so the distance between them could be close. I do not think he will be able to defend as well to Lewis’ and his strikes.

Lewis will most likely deliver some powerful strikes and turn one into a knockout. If he can keep the fight standing then this one is his.
