UFC on FOX 31 Handicapping

The feature fight of UFC on Fox 31 and our top betting pick will come to us from the fight between Juan Adams and Chris De La Rocha in the Heavyweight Division.  This fight will take place as the first fight of the night and can be seen on UFC Fight Pass.

Chris De La Rocha is 5-2 overall and enters this bout after losing 2 of his last 3 fights. I’m not going to beat around the bush with this one….the guy doesn’t belong in the UFC.  Point Blank! When you look at his recent fight videos, he looks like someone that is obviously on the end of his career.

He is coming in off a win over Rashad Coulter, who now is fighting at Light Heavyweight. His other 2 UFC fights came against Adam Milstead, who is also now fighting at Light Heavyweight and Daniel Omielanczuk, who no longer fights for the UFC.  La Rocha was KO’d by both Milstead and Omielanczuk in the 1st and 2nd round.

On the opposite side of the cage, Juan Adams will be making his UFC debut.  Adams was found on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and won by 1st round TKO over Shawn Teed.  Adams has never made it out of the first round in his pro career, winning all 4 of his fights in the 1st round, all 4 by KO or TKO.  I’ll be the first to admit, I actually picked against Adams in the fight on DWTNCS but he really impressed me. He is a BIG Heavyweight and he should have no issues at all making his UFC debut, against a much lesser quality opponent.

Now…….you all have heard me say this a million and one times, never play fighters that are inflated with odds but in this spot, its about as safe as you will ever find and therefore, I am going to roll with Juan Adams -400.  I know, the odds suck and not the best but this is a great play and I just can’t ignore it.

Free Pick: Juan Adams -400 for 3 units

Additional UFC on FOX 31 Plays

Jared Gordon -147 over Joaquim Silva for 2.5 units – Jared Gordon and Joaquim Silva are both coming off a loss.  Gordon will come out eager to get back in the win column and should be able to use his striking to batter down Silva.  Gordon wins this fight late in the 2nd round.

Jack Hermansson -180 over Gerald Meerschaert for 2 units – Hermannson is a very talented striker that has gone 4-2 in the UFC with 3 of his 4 wins in the UFC coming by way of KO or TKO.  Hermansson does really well against grapplers and does a good job at keeping the fight on the feet. He will do that same thing here and get the win over Gerald Meerschaert.

Dan Hooker +100 over Edson Barboza for 2 units – People are still overlooking Hooker, even after he rolled off 4 straight wins, all finishes, over the likes of Gilbert Burns, Jim Miller, Marc Diakiese and Ross Pearson.  No one finishes Ross Pearson and Hooker did it in the 2nd round! The guys really impressive and all though I really like Barboza as a fighter, I think the style doesn’t fair well for him.

Andrea Lee – 239 over Jessica-Rose Clark for 2 units – I really like Andrea Lee.  She has everything the UFC needs to market her and build her up.  She is 9-2 overall and is undefeated in the UFC at 1-0. I think her 5 fight win streak extends here and she gets a decision win over Jessica-Rose Clark.

Misc. Notes for UFC on FOX 31

Kevin Lee vs. Al Iaquinta – These two already fought once and Iaquinta won by unanimous decision.  He beat him once so chances are he has what it takes to do it again. The odd part, is he is now the underdog in the fight?  Does Vegas know something that we don’t? As crazy as it may sound, if Iaquinta would of come in at -110 to +110, I would of probably wrote my best bet up as Iaquinta winning the fight but something isn’t right with these odds and therefore, I am fading the play.  If you are looking for something with amazing odds, Iaquinta is +309 and we already know he can beat Lee.
