For the first time since 2007, the World Series of Poker main event champion will be crowned in July. A few days ago Poker Central released a statement announcing the acquisition of global television and digital media rights to the World Series of Poker. They have partnered with ESPN to provide live coverage from Day 1 until the final table is set and a winner is declared.

This is a big change in history for the most visited live poker tournament in the world. For over 10 years players had been accustomed to this break, allowing them to lock down sponsorships and deals with big poker companies before the start of the final table. With the main event running non-stop, some of these opportunities will suffer changes indeed.

In the past, the break allowed for TV coverage to catch up and air some of the highlights from the different main event days. It also allowed them to prepare for the streaming of the final table in November. This year the WSOP main event will begin on July 8th and continue until the final table is set, then after a 2-day break, the players will return on July 20th until the winner is crowned.

The WSOP main event has a $10,000 buy-in with a starting chip stack of 50,000 and 2-hour levels. Below are the starting times for the 3 startup events:

ESPN and ESPN2 will provide live coverage throughout the entire event with a 30-minute delay, this is to comply with gambling regulations for Here's the schedule for the coverage:

According to the new schedule, ESPN will provide live coverage for approximately 40 hours and it will also be aired on Poker Central's distribution channels, mostly digital. It appears that this partnership between Poker Central and ESPN will continue the coverage on this same format for the next 4 years.
